Moving On From An X.Org World To Wayland

Stone's talk was entitled "The real story behind Wayland and X" and went over the history of X11/X.Org over the years and how it's basically become a huge mess. His talk then turned to the positive traits of Wayland and how with its integrated compositor every frame is meant to be perfect, it does away without all of the X cruft, and the remote display technology (once finished) should be better than with X11. His talk was mainly intended to dispel myths about Wayland.
Daniel Stone also shared that the items holding him back from switching over to Wayland on his production machine comes down to the Wayland touch-pad support needing to be improved and that the GNOME Shell / Mutter port needs to be brought up to date. Daniel was looking at bringing up to date the GNOME Wayland port, but hasn't done so yet.
