Samba 4.0.0 Officially Released

At long last Samba 4.0.0 has seen the light of day. Samba 4.0 was officially released today as the major rewrite of this widely used SMB/CIFS implementation.

Samba 4.0 now supports being an Active Directory domain controller, two distinct file servers, two DNS solutions, NTP support, a new Python scripting interface, and many other new features.

Samba 4.0 has been in development since 2003. The development of this 4.0 release led it through 21 alpha releases before going into beta earlier this year followed by the start of the release candidates in September.
