OUYA: A $99 Android Linux Game Console

In the hours today while being pre-occupied with Debian-related matters in Nicaragua, a new Android-based sub-$100 Linux game console received over one million dollars in funding from the community.

As the latest Kickstarter success, there is now the OUYA project. The project had a goal to raise $950,000 over 30 days, but in less than 24 hours they have already raised $1.763 million USD and that number is still quickly climbing. OUYA comes down to being a $99 video game console that runs Android and contains only free (as in beer) software. OUYA will be an open design that developers can target and take advantage of all the features of a modern TV. There's also a "word-class controller, console, and interface."

The OUYA project was already brought up today within the Phoronix Forums. It's an interesting open game console design, but will likely be trumped in the coming year by something much more interesting. Anyhow, those interested in learning more about OUYA can see the video embedded below.
