Open-Source Freedreno Hits New 3D Milestone
The latest milestone for Freedreno, the reverse-engineered open-source Qualcomm Adreno graphics processor found on their Snapdragon ARM SoC, is a spinning cube.
Back in April Phoronix was the first to deliver news on an emerging open-source Snapdragon GPU driver that was being written by Rob Clark of Texas Instruments, since he's not allowed to write an open-source 3D driver for his employer's own hardware due to being tainted by PowerVR.
Just a few days ago I wrote about the Freedreno driver hitting a 3D rendering milestone. Now on Saturday night I was told by Rob Clark that he has managed a spinning cube on his open-source Linux driver stack. He subsequently provided a video of this latest milestone, which is embedded below.
Now it's a race between Freedreno and the Lima driver to see which one advances the fastest.
