DirectFB 1.6 Brings OpenGL, Android Features
After being almost a half-year late, DirectFB 1.6 has been released.
DirectFB 1.6 was actually released about two weeks ago, but its stable release wasn't widely publicized. Originally this 1.6 release was expected back in January.
Key features of DirectFB 1.6 include early support for DirectFB on Google's Android, a new system module with OpenGL-based acceleration using Mesa, support for compositor applications to access surfaces and updates from other applications within the compositor, performance improvements in the Fusion non-secure mode, and many API additions.
See the Illixi compositor in DirectFB 1.6 for a video demo of what's now possible with this open-source direct frame-buffer project.
Additional details on DirectFB 1.6.0 and download links are available from DirectFB.org.
While it will still be a ways away, there's already plans for DirectFB 2.0.
