The openSUSE distribution has released milestone zero of their next major release, openSUSE 12.3.

OpenSUSE 12.3 Milestone 0 pulls in lots of new packages from openSUSE Factory like KDE 4.9.1, glibc 2.16, Linux 3.6.0-rc7, X.Org Server 1.13, updated X components, a Mesa 9.0 snapshot, OpenJDK 1.7.0.6, Qt 4.8.2, and much more.

Aside from updated packages, there is now the SourceCodePro font from Adobe that's bundled as a font package, support for the OPUS audio codec via libopus, and jpeg-turbo is now the default jpegv8 implementation while jpegv6 has been dropped.

The release announcement for openSUSE 12.3 can be found at news.opensuse.org. OpenSUSE 12.3 is expected for release in March of 2013.

Coming up later this month in Prague is also the openSUSE Conference during LinuxDays 2012. I will be in Prague for these Linux events so you can expect live coverage on Phoronix when the events get underway in two weeks.
