ARM Calxeda Highbank Ubuntu Linux Benchmarks
Back in June there were Calxeda's ARM Highbank performance claims of delivering 15x performance-per-Watt superior performance to Intel's Xeon x86 processor. At long last, independent benchmarks of a quad-core Calxeda Highbank board are beginning to surface.
Once again, thanks to the Phoronix Test Suite and OpenBenchmarking.org, some independent user/organization is beginning to upload Ubuntu Linux test results for a Calxeda-based ARM configuration. Right now there aren't many interesting results, but hopefully the flow of Highbank data will continue in the coming days and weeks. The last I heard from Calxeda in terms of any official Highbank benchmarking on Phoronix.com is that they wanted to wait for their customers to publish any benchmarks they want themselves. So I'm stuck here in a waiting game at the moment on Calxeda hardware, but pleased to see data starting to flow this evening onto OpenBenchmarking.org.
Here's one result file example, but the numbers aren't too impressive without looking at the performance-per-Watt, which sadly wasn't bundled with this result file. Here's a dynamic OpenBenchmarking.org comparison against some other hardware for this Calxeda Highbank system with four ARMv7 cores, 4GB of RAM, and a 100GB disk drive. The ARM Calxeda system was running Ubuntu 12.04 with the Linux 3.2.0-1000-highbank armv7l kernel and the GCC 4.6 compiler.
There's also the Calxeda Highbank dmesg, /proc/cpuinfo, and other system details for those interested.
