Urban Terror 4.2 is expected to go into public beta tomorrow with many new features and improvements.

Urban Terror, the open-source ioquake3-based first person shooter that has id Software's former Linux developer as one of its contributors, is preparing for its 4.2 release and they expect to issue the first public beta on Friday, 3 August. This Urban Terror 4.2 release isn't to be confused what's going to be Urban Terror HD and developed under a full (non-open) id Tech license, but is an update to the aging Urban Terror 4.1 game.

Among the changes to Urban Terror 4.2 is a "Last Man Standing" game type, new and updated maps, an updated match mode, updated hit detection, updated player model animations, a new Auth system, and the game's auto-update is now included by default (UrTUpdater).

More information on the upcoming release of Urban Terror 4.2 is available from its project web-site at UrbanTerror.info. Embedded below is a YouTube video highlighting some of the changes for this open-source first person shooter for Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows operating systems.
