Intel Ships A MeeGo Update For Cedar Trail

Intel quietly released a new version of MeeGo for netbooks last week.

With there still not being an official release of Tizen quite yet, Intel went ahead last week to release MeeGo v1.2.0.6 for Intel x86 netbooks.

This new release isn't a major feature update, but it ships hardware support for their latest-generation "Cedar Trail" hardware. Unfortunately the graphics driver for this is just the kernel portion and then a closed-source user-space. so at this point it lacks any mainline ambitions.

Cedar Trail represents the latest-generation 32nm Intel Atom processors. Unfortunately its graphics though aren't developed in-house, but at least that's changing to avoid such situations in the future.

The Cedar Trail update for MeeGo was confirmed by Gordon Jin of Intel China in this mailing list message and can be downloaded from MeeGo.com. Intel is producing separate MeeGo spins for their Pine Trail and Cedar Trail platforms.
