Linux 4.8-rc1 Kernel Released
As of writing, Linus Torvalds has yet to issue a formal release announcement for Linux 4.8-rc1. However, it's been tagged in Git. For now at least, Linux 4.8 remains codenamed "Psychotic Stoned Sheep."

Linux 4.8 has been on the heavier side and seems like it will end up offering more end-user functionality than what premiered with Linux 4.7.
