LINUX KERNEL
Just like clockwork, the first release candidate / development version of the Linux 4.8 kernel is now available for testing.

As of writing, Linus Torvalds has yet to issue a formal release announcement for Linux 4.8-rc1. However, it's been tagged in Git. For now at least, Linux 4.8 remains codenamed "Psychotic Stoned Sheep."

While Torvalds' usual brief announcement has yet to hit the wire, you can already read the recap of my frequent Linux 4.8 merge window feature coverage over the past two weeks... See The Many Exciting Features To The Linux 4.8 Kernel. There's a ton of exciting changes and new features coming down the pipe for Linux 4.8! Linux 4.8 has been on the heavier side and seems like it will end up offering more end-user functionality than what premiered with Linux 4.7.

Benchmarks forthcoming!

Update: Torvalds' release announcement for 4.8-rc1 has now been mailed out.
