As anticipated, the Linux 4.4 kernel has been officially released.

Linus Torvalds announced Linux 4.4 a short time ago and mentioned that there weren't many changes since 4.4-rc8 and that things are ready to go.

If you aren't familiar with the Linux 4.4 kernel changes, see our usual feature overview. Torvalds' 4.4 announcement can be read via the Indiana LKML archives.

With that said, the merge window for Linux 4.5 is now open for the next two weeks.
