HDMI CEC Promoted Out Of Staging For Linux 4.10
The HDMI CEC core and drivers that has been in development for a long time for Linux and entered staging with 4.8 is now being promoted to mainline with Linux 4.10. The Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) support over HDMI is what allows supported devices to be controlled via the single cable such as for playback controls and other functionality rather than having to deal with a device-specific remote.
Not only was all of the CEC code promoted during Linux 4.10, the LIRC serial driver was also promoted from staging to mainstream. Some other media changes for Linux 4.10 include new Mediatek drivers (mtk-mdp and mtk-vcodec), DVB core clean-ups, support for HSV encoding formats, and other changes and clean-ups.
