Libdrm 2.4.63 Makes Official The AMDGPU Support

Marek Olšák of AMD this morning announced libdrm 2.4.63 as the newest version of this DRM Library that interfaces between the Linux kernel DRM drivers and the user-space DDX and Mesa components, among other user-space graphics code.

Earlier this month, support for AMDGPU was pushed into Libdrm as one of the pieces needed before the Mesa RadeonSI Gallium3D driver support will work with this new kernel DRM driver for supporting Tonga, Carrizo, Fiji, and other future GPUs. The AMDGPU kernel driver just landed with the Linux 4.2 kernel.

Marek released Libdrm 2.4.63 to make the AMDGPU support available in a released version. AMDGPU support is the main change with v2.4.63 but there's also a variety of other fixes.

Now hopefully in the next few days AMD will merge the AMDGPU winsys changes and other code into Mesa so that there's mainline support. Since the code was released months ago, it's just been in branched versions of Mesa, but it's expected to land for Mesa 11.0 and Mesa 11.0 is being branched next week, thus there's just a few days now to make it happen.
