KVM Changes Lined Up For Linux 4.8 Kernel

The Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) changes were sent in today as the new feature work for Linux 4.8.

New KVM features for Linux 4.8 include nested virtualization support on s390 via vSIE, initial extensions for CPU model support on s390, reduced vmexit latency for the TSC deadline timer on Intel x86 hosts, support for more than 255 vCPUs for x86 KVM, various PowerPC bug fixes, support for MIPS64 hosts while using 32-bit guests, preliminary support for upcoming hardware virtualization extensions on MIPS, and various other changes throughout.
