To date most of the XDG-App talk for application sandboxing has been within the GNOME camp, but it's great to see a KDE developer is now looking at supporting this important technology outside of the GNOME space.

KDE developer Aleix Pol is experimenting with KDE applications on XDG-App for containerized applications.

He explained in a blog post that XDG-App on KDE is actually working out quite well. "All in all, it’s rather easy, it implements a packaging format, but one that I feel KDE can maintain reasonably easily. I set it up in 2 chunks, copying GNOME’s approach: one repository for the run-time (that includes Qt5 and most of the KDE Frameworks 5) and then another one that can build applications."

Aleix Pol has managed to package some KDE applications like Kate and KAlgebra. Those not up to speed on XDG-App sandboxing can learn more via the GNOME Wiki.
