Intel Linux Graphics Driver To Finally Expose GPU Package Temperature
With the upcoming Linux 6.12 kernel the Intel graphics driver will finally be able to report GPU fan speeds. Another long sought feature is also on the way for this open-source Linux driver: GPU package temperature reporting for Intel discrete GPUs.
Following the recent work to report graphics card fan speeds and the earlier hardware monitoring (HWMON) support around energy/power reporting, GPU package temperature reporting is finally on track for being mainlined into the Linux kernel. While the GPU fan speed support is queued up in DRM-Next for Linux 6.12, the GPU temperature patch is still sitting on the mailing list and thus might not be mainlined until the following 6.13 cycle.
This patch adds the support to the Intel driver for GPU package temperature reporting via HWMON.
With Arc Graphics cards being available for two years now, it's taken a long time to get the seemingly basic feature wired up. The patch is just a few dozen lines of code getting the i915 kernel driver to report Intel GPU temperatures.
