Intel Open-Source Technology Center developers are back to working on SVM support for the Intel i915 DRM driver.

Jesse Barnes had begun working on SVM support several months ago, but he since left Intel. Intel's Mika Kuoppala has now picked up this work and has sent out revised patches.

Jesse Barnes presented on Intel DRM SVM support back at FOSDEM 2016 to cover this pointer sharing between the CPU and GPU, pointer sharing with buffers, pointer sharing with a bufferless API, and other functionality. Those Intel SVM slides from the graphics context are here in PDF form.

The revised SVM support patches were mailed out today on the intel-gfx list. Hopefully they'll be ready for merging in Linux ~4.9.
