GLAMOR Starts Getting Improved For X.Org Server 1.18
Eric Anholt has called on the first pull request for the X.Org Server 1.18 merge window to improve the GLAMOR 2D acceleration code.
As shown by my recent EXA vs. GLAMOR Radeon tests on xorg-server 1.17, this means of 2D acceleration via OpenGL is turning out quite nicely. However, given Eric's focus now on improving GLAMOR for embedded ARM hardware, more improvements are still forthcoming.
Eric wrote in yesterday, "This is a bunch of reviewed glamor code. Some of keithp's never got sent to the list, and he kept just telling me about the branch's existence in person. I reviewed most of it, though one of the middle patches didn't make sense and crashed on me, so I rebased the rest onto the series with that one dropped. Xephyr shows no regressions on Xlib9, and it's running on my desktop."
I'd still expect to see more GLAMOR optimizations in the next few months given that besides it being optional for Intel hardware and depended upon for VC4 Raspberry Pi acceleration, it's needed for modern generations of AMD Radeon hardware and Nouveau for Maxwell and newer. X.Org Server 1.18 should be released later in 2015. Stay tuned for more 1.18 updates as the development cycle progresses.
