FBDEV Is Still Seeing Improvements With Linux 4.14
It has been five years since a call was made to deprecate Linux FBDEV back during LPC 2012. Five years later while there are now more DRM and V4L2 drivers, FBDEV is still alive and kicking within the mainline later.
The FBDEV changes were submitted this week for Linux 4.14 and it's actually a busier cycle than normal but still not nearly as busy as the Direct Rendering Manager (DRM) work that happens each time around.
Changes this time include adding a fbcon=margin: command-line switch to specify a frame-buffer console margin color, a DMI quirk table for x86 systems needing fbcon rotation, enabling the Xilinx frame-buffer driver for the ARM ZynqMP platform, and a variety of other fixes and smaller improvements.
