Chrome OS + Android Reported To Combine In 2017
While there's been signals that Google is interested in merging Chrome OS into Android, there are reports coming out that Google has been making progress on that and the consolidated operating system to suit both Chrome OS and Android devices along with normal PCs will be available in 2017.
The Wall Street Journal is reporting, "Google plans to fold its Chrome operating system for personal computers into its Android mobile-operating system."
According to their report, the new, single operating system would be out in 2017 but an early version could come in 2016.
It will be interesting to see what this new combined Linux OS looks like and if it will have much traction for desktop PCs as an alternative to Windows, OS X, and other Linux distributions for that matter.
