Apple's Swift Is Now Open-Source, Development Snapshots For Ubuntu

We've been waiting since this summer for Apple to open-source their Swift programming language and provide Linux support. This week they've done their initial release and stuck to their word.

Over on Swift.org is now where you can interact with this open-source project. Besides the OS X development snapshots, there are also pre-built images for Ubuntu 14.04 and 15.04. The packages are based on Swift 2.2 and released on 1 December. Support for Windows and Android is currently being explored.

All of the open-source Swift code and its integration with LLVM/Clang can be found via the Apple GitHub page. Those that haven't looked at the Swift syntax yet can see some code snippets and more details via Wikipedia.
