Apache OpenOffice Proposed For Retirement, Still Being Debated
With the progress LibreOffice is making these days, many of you probably forgot OpenOffice was still even around. It is, but the Apache developers are currently debating the possibility of retiring it.
Developer Dennis Hamilton started a discussion thread about views by developers and stakeholders on gracefully retiring Apache OpenOffice. Dennis began by saying, "I have regularly observed that the Apache OpenOffice project has limited capacity for sustaining the project in an energetic manner. It is also my considered opinion that there is no ready supply of developers who have the capacity, capability, and will to supplement the roughly half-dozen volunteers holding the project together. It doesn't matter what the reasons for that might be."
You can see the discussion thread here. So far discussions appear to be mixed on the matter, so we'll have to wait and see what happens.
