Feral Interactive Appears To Be Stepping Up Its AMD Linux Game
Feral Interactive Games is assembling some new systems for their Linux porting business and there's a lot of AMD hardware present.
Feral, the company that's ported games from Windows to Linux (and OS X) like Shadow of Mordor and Company of Heroes 2, is assembling a number of new systems for their work.
They posted this morning to Twitter, "Do you like bits of things? Yes? Us too! We’re putting them together into Linux machines, most of them with AMD CPUs." Besides AMD CPUs, seen is a Radeon R9 290, but there's also some new NVIDIA hardware (GTX 980 Ti, GTX 970), some Intel CPUs, and other hard to see red hardware. Their picture is embedded below.
When asked about what driver(s) would be used with the AMD hardware, Feral responded, "All of 'em."
Let's hope that for the benefit of Linux gamers there's going to be greater testing going on of ported titles, to hopefully avoid issues like new games that fail miserably with AMD Catalyst on Linux (sans when Feral is blocked by AMD in waiting for new Linux driver releases). But based on their follow-up comment, hopefully they'll begin testing the RadeonSI Gallium3D driver with their games given that with Mesa 11.0 the latest AMD graphics hardware on the open-source driver is now living in an OpenGL 4 world and is starting to run more and more Steam Linux games without faults.
