I agree with the workflow comments about Gnome 3. I've found it to be the most streamlined of the Desktop Environments.
Desktop icons are useless...

I really like the PCEngines boards, but they are a different orientation than the UP. PCEngines make a great embedded firewall (OPNsense, PFsense, etc)....

Good ideas. It looks like most of the available processors with ECC support are non-G Xeon E or a F variant of the i3, both of which don't have graphics....
