I think its quite obvious that Allen Lowe complain's are reasonable. Why could't the X.org project work...

When something is new and unstable it usually is wise to keep the old stuff around so users can choose to fallback to it while the new stuff gets stable...

Sorry but I tested a Fedora 10 live on my Asus eee 901 and the glxgears performance was about the same as with Ubuntu 8.10, rendering errors INCLUDED....
