      I think it's pretty closely tied to ogl via cogl.
      What I'd like to know is where the hell is graphene?

            Yup. It's the gnome scene graph library., and it's been "done" for nearly two years.
            IIRC, one of the main reasons they started using clutter was for its scene graph (obviously the gl acceleration was another).
