Phoronix: The Next Mesa Release Doesn't Have Any Major OpenGL Breakthrough

Mesa won't end out 2015 with reaching any new OpenGL support level, at least as far as Mesa in released form is concerned...

Mesa 11.1 is supposed to be branched this weekend
It is already branched 90 minutes ago.

Since Mesa 11.0, seven OpenGL 4.x extensions have been implemented for Intel graphics. That's the same number as three months ago, if I counted correctly. There are still 13 extensions left, so if everything continues at the same speed, we will see full OpenGL 4.5 support in June 2016. AMD might follow 3 months later. I guess 2016 will be very exciting then.

Anyone wants to bet who will first see OpenGL 4.2 support?

Is GL_ARB_compute_shader (OpenGL 4.3) more important?

I think we will see it in the same release for Intel and Radeon SI but i think Intel might be first in git.
I think that Intel will be the first to with OpenGL 4.3.

Looking at GL3.txt again, looks like that when compute shaders land, we'll have a clear way to full GL 4.5 compliance. Only three extensions left that aren't being worked on: GL_ARB_internalformat_query2, GL_ARB/KHR_robust_buffer_access_behavior and GL_ARB_query_buffer_object, and they don't sound particularly difficult. Likely Mesa will be done next year, if Khronos doesn't release a new GL spec.

Mesa won't be done but it might support the currently released openGL specification.

Mesa being in a position where it can optimize performance rather than playing feature catchup? Impossibru.
