But are there any Linux-compatible force-feedback steering whell with manual transmission that works out of the box? $400 is a major purchase IMO.

For those interested in testing the wheel, it first needs a magical byte-sequence to be sent to switch over to HID mode:
only after that, the hid-logitech-hidpp driver can take over.

This magical byte-sequence can be sent automatically when using (the latest version (2.3.0) of) "usb_modeswitch", combined with the following extra file:
- "/etc/usb_modeswitch.d/046d:c261" for Fedora
- "/usr/share/usb_modeswitch/046d:c261" for Arch
