    While Debian 9.0 "Stretch" most likely will not be officially released until 2017 given that Debian 8 "Jessie" was just released a few months ago, the Debian Installer team has already put out their first alpha version for Stretch...

    They finally did something I wanted: default to the graphical installer.

    Now to improve it (add native resolution support, make it more streamlined)...

      Doesn't d-i have native resolution support? It looked fine on my Dell Venue 8 Pro 3845, which has a resolution of 800x1280. Yes, 800x1280, not 1280x800.

        It definitely doesn't support 1920x1080 or even 1600x900; it'll look blurred on those screens. Ubuntu does not have this problem.
