Phoronix: Did Hell Freeze Over? Intel Mesa Does GLSL 1.30!

Here's quite an unexpected surprise: GL Shading Language 1.30 support in Mesa for Intel Sandy Bridge hardware (Gen6 and newer) is now marked as complete. GLSL 1.30 has been the big item to tackle in obtaining OpenGL 3.0 compliance for this critical open-source graphics component...

Why should they do that? They do not even have OpenGL 3.0 ready yet and there is still OpenGL 3.1, OpenGL 3.2 and OpenGL 3.3 to support after that.

can this be ported (the glsl work i mean) easily to G3D so that the rest of the drivers can use it???

Because this is a big part of the OpenGL 3.0 specification.

That still doesn't explain why they should do something completely pointless in terms of getting OpenGL 3.0 working.

How does it save development time? If such savings is not imaginary, would it be realistic to expect it to compensate for a complete rewrite enough that OpenGL 3.0 would be finished sooner?

You're wrong Mike, if hell were to freeze over, we'd have steam for linux.

Well, at the least opengl 4.2.
