    Well Ubuntu will backport it anyway and others can do the same I suppose.

        I think the point is the ubuntu is behind it, so they don't worry about backporting it. Leaving it OUT of the next xserver means that ubuntu will be the ONLY distro to ship it because face it, nobody else is going to backport it. Its a sneaky trick.
