Phoronix: AMD Hardware Ray-Tracing Hopes To Be Ready For Blender 3.5

While Blender 3.2 introduced AMD HIP on Linux support for GPU acceleration and the recent Blender 3.3 extended the AMD GPU Cycles acceleration back to GFX9/Vega GPUs, for those wanting AMD ray-tracing support within Blender it's not expected to come until Blender 3.5...

Cool, AMD is slowly getting there. And that's great for costumers.

By then we'll also have RDNA 3 cards, which are expected to have faster RT, so that should be a big jump for AMD performance in Blender.

It's interesting to me how Blender is this sort of battleground for everyone to prove their GPU technologies. This is the best kind of competition, because Blender is being optimized for whatever you use, whereas a lot of the time you have to either choose between the program or the GPU platform.

this shows how opensource software become more and more important there is blender as battleground because it is important in the industry now.

Krita for example did get intel as sponsor because krita goes the same route as blender...

GIMP should be the same but is not yet important... but i think in the near future GIMP becomes a complete Adobe Photoshop replacement and because of this becomes important in the future.

as soon as such a software like blender becomes a battleground its like game over for the closed source ecosystem.
