      Sometimes I have a feeling that upstream kernel devs don't quite play nice with openzfs.

        kernel devs have made explicit statements that they will make no concessions when it comes to zfs. they treat it as if it doesn't exist. they don't care if what they do breaks zfs.

          They're actively hostile towards anything that isn't GPL, constantly making it so it is more and more hard to interact with kernel symbol and functions by arbitrarily having them require to be accessed by GPL only software, there is no practical or technical reason for this, as just changing the license file makes everything work fine: https://github.com/openzfs/zfs/issues/10982

            I totally get that they want to fuck nvidia an similar companies up the ass, but I think there's some element of hypocrisy when they're so hostile towards other copyleft-licenced software.

            Part of that is probably having to establish consistent legal (if not philosophical) policy, so it would be hard to pick favorites, but then there's this whole other level of hate from kernel devs who either:

            A) think OpenZFS is run by oracle and hate oracle
            or
            B) have a hate-boner for sun licencing solaris under the CDDL instead of the GPL in the 2000's
