UI font rendering on Windows probably still gives eye cancer with broken subpixel AA and if text doesn't look cut or clinched after heavy formatting changes on Linux, I'd be surprised. But let's add more features, it has just been years...

If you have problems and encounter bugs like the word group issue, make sure that there is an entry on the LO bug tracker. Developers can only fix issues they know about. They will also scratch their own itch first and solve issues they find important for their needs. It is an opensource project after all.

The notion that one feature (here: Klingon) has to come at the cost of another (here: figure/caption group) is a rather denigrating view on development as it assumes that developer effort is fungible. Whoever added support for Klingon might not be able to deal with bugs around grouped items.

I kinda doubt that the Klingon support came from one of the companies doing paid LibreOffice support and development, while those would be prime candidates to deal with office suite compatibility issues because that's a more pressing need for their customers (professional LO users).

Exactly. I can patch GRUB2 to generate multiple entries per kernel with different command lines. I can't patch GRUB2 to enable better ZFS support. Guess which one is done entirely in shell script?

Yet there is funding, which implies responsibility to set goals for an acceptable user experience. They can do what they want, though that's just rephrasing of "they are allowed to screw up". Sponsors are also allowed to keep their money to themselves or to other projects...
