How does MariaDB compare to MySQL?
Have they diverged greatly or are they very similar?

I have never used MariaDB, and I haven't used MySQL since the version 5 days, but it seems like a very nice database since version 8, with sane defaults and some JSON support.

There's currently at least one downside with flatpaks (but it can become advantage). For example Xonotic from flatpak provides older mesa packages and runs slower than Xonotic from Fedora repository. Steam games from flatpak also run slower. Would it be possible to provide the latest mesa stack with flatpak - like flatpak package, so applications would use it? Or perhaps, is there any way to use mesa provided by distribution instead? Ps. This combined with legacy X applications run by XWayland may introduce noticeable performance penalty.

Recently I was researching the situation with MySQL / MariaDB and it is disturbing. MariaDB is no longer a drop in replacement for MySQL.

So we have a mess. MySQL sold to SUN, then to Oracle. Now the copyrights for the code and the trademark for the brand belong to Oracle which continues to develop MySQL. But the previous owners decided to fork - after of course taking the money. But they do not have the copryrights anymore.

Loosers, the people who invested their time and energy on the platform. Now they are hostages to the conflicting interests of these 2 parties. Because remebmer nothing is eventually free. There is always the personal investment that we usually take into account lightly when looking at the monetary cost of options.

Pulling disto's mesa into a container is contradicting to the goal of containerization. Although it seems NVIDIA has some solution (nvidia-docker).

well, it's just too new! Fedora is a bleeding edge distro, but give them time! After all, that's a huge work.
