And the amount of Javascript nonsense in it means it is effectively a web browser anyway these days. Might as well fit in line with the other ones.

Plus I am sure the new versioning scheme is much easier for non-technical consumers to understand.

That would be unfair to web browsers. It is more like a single threaded web app.

JavaScript is much more than the web. JavaScript runs on the server too using Node.js, and people write desktop applications in JavaScript using Electron.

The web is powered by JavaScript, HTML, CSS over HTTP and the API provided by JavaScript is the standardized browser-related APIs that is DOM and other stuff. JavaScript can be without those web browser specific APIs.

So GNOME is not like a web browser.

It's GNOME. They don't like being intuitive (and, of course, 144Hz has his pom-poms at the ready no matter what they decide).
