Phoronix: AMD Renoir Graphics Beating Out Intel Icelake/Gen11 On Linux

Earlier this week I provided the first Linux benchmarks of the AMD Ryzen 7 4700U Zen 2 mobile processor on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and running within a Lenovo IdeaPad 5 (14). That initial article was focused on the CPU performance while for your viewing pleasure today are some preliminary benchmark numbers for the Vega 7 graphics up against Intel Gen11/Icelake.

What's the power consumption like with these graphics-heavy workloads?

How long can I play Super Tux Kart in the woods?

AMD GPU beating Intel? Not really surprised there ;-)

For Windows, drivers for Windows 10 only ?
Versions of DP and HDMI not published.
        No thanks!

They also refuse to properly expose VP9 DXVA2/D3D11VA decoding for e.g. ffmpeg on Windows:

Blatantly ignorant, typical AMD Windows driver team behavior.

            Do you mean Intel?

Not really sure how any of those benchmarks matter that much. Non-gaming laptop (neither device is a gaming class laptop) use case is how well the laptop performs on battery, and for how long, while getting your work done away from an electrical outlet. These particular benchmarks won't tell you any of that.

Further, the real test case beyond performance on battery power is if you can actually USE the device in question. Does the keyboard suck like nearly all Apple laptops even with the new magic keyboard? Is it too small like all sub 13" devices? Can you even SEE the panel well enough not to squint all day at the text? These are things average laptop users want to know.

Michael The SuperTuxKart test is quite outdated at this point (1.0+ contain some significant engine optimizations). It'd be interesting to test on the same platforms with SuperTuxkart 1.1 (the latest version) and see if the results are different.

I tried to figure out how to update it on OpenBenchmarking.org, but couldn't figure it out. Any pointers on how to create a new revision?

Well considering how old Gen 11 is, I am not impressed with AMD, they should outperform it by a bigger margin. It will be interesting to see how it compares against Gen 12 (Intel Xe).

Gen 11 is the latest shipping product. It launched only a few months ago. Gen 12 is not shipping yet. Not sure what your point is. This is literally the highest performing iGPU in the 15w TDP class from any manufacturer. Not enough for you? Ok, that's what dGPU's are for. It's as if you're reading a spoon review, and complaining that it's not sharp enough for your t-bone steak.

Edit: This is a 7 CU part, AMD has an even higher performing 8 CU part in the 4800U.
