Well, the ram usage says nothing about the impact on the cpu, which is most important. Or the impact on other independent programs (yes, it happens!, also with Gnome).

From their 20.04 release announcement when they explain the reason for the switch, they state that almost the entire Ubuntu Studio development team is already using KDE with the Ubuntu Studio package as their primary environment.

If the developers prefer it, it's probably fine.

For the visual impaired, GNOME has better magnifier which supports tracking of insertion point when typing. Of course, for this to work:

1. If you are using Firefox, close Firefox.
2. Do Super+Alt+S to activate Orca screen reader.
3. Open Firefox.
4. Deactivate Orca screen reader (Super+Alt+S). (Optional)

The GNOME Magnifier should be able to track the insertion point in Firefox.

Of course, anyone with visual disability who want to install Ubuntu Studio can install Pop!_OS or Ubuntu and then follow the instructions to install Ubuntu Studio packages you might need.

PS: To use magnifier in GNOME desktop:

Super+Alt+8: Activate/deactivate magnifier
Super+Alt+=: Zoom in
Super+Alt+-: Zoom out

horizonbrave Both distributors refuse to discuss defaults. OpenSUSE because they are desktop agnostic (for now, JUMP might change that) and Fedora Workstation because defaults imply you can change desktops. Frankendesktops are not a Fedora Workstation.

That's nice. Other distros should do the same. KDE is more superior! Gnome is good and it has better wayland support but KDE has more advantages.
