Riiiiiiigggghhhtt.

SRSLY though, for that to be true, this either needs to be only for enterprise hardware or it needs to expose what's collected in the firmware and offer the ability to disable it. No way in hell people are going to trust vendors (e.g. Lenovo) to not abuse this capability if it can't be disabled and if there's no visibility into what's transmitted. We can't trust them to not ship with installed malware. It'd only get worse if that could bypass the OS.

Immediate edit: I guess we'll see if this is more like letting sys admins log from hardware, or letting vendors collect more "anonymous" data when the details get spilled. And this is going to get a lot of visibility. But for now, it's dubious.
