Phoronix: Linux 5.2-rc7 Is Quiet & Released On A Boat Somewhere

Linus Torvalds is off in "the middle of nowhere" on one of his well known scuba diving adventures but that didn't stop him from being able to release Linux 5.2-rc7 today like clock-work thanks to tethering of a smartphone...

Serious question: what would happen if Linus dies?

Linus Torvalds: the man who is brave enough to release his kernel in time even during a catastrophe.

Linus Torvalds is off in "the middle of nowhere", a place which is suffering after a massive tsunami, but that didn't stop him from being able to release Linux 20.1-rc2 today like clock-work thanks to an emergency connection leased by the military.

Except for the fact that sometimes it takes 2 minutes to shut down your computer for no reason by default and you have to set it to 10 seconds on every installation to alleviate.

fix your applications, or use a distro where maintainers don't suck. Systemd is just a messenger here.

The reason is clearly stated when you take time to read the console messages:
some process isn't immediately quitting and systemd is giving 2 minute extra delay before force-killing it, in case it's just busy saving stuff before shutting down
(some heavy applications can actually indeed take more than 10 second at teardown time)
(but most of the time this is mostly due to the distributions being only sloppily integrated with systemd and the stopping of services simply not done correctly: there are left over processes)
(or you're just clumsy and left a forgotten "autossh" which is still trying to spawn sessions in a loop).
