Phoronix: The First Baby Step Towards Intel's SYCL Support In LLVM Clang Lands In Git/SVN

On the LLVM/Clang front one of the milestones we are looking forward to hopefully see happen in 2019 is the merging of Intel's SYCL back-end. The first baby step in that direction has now been merged to Clang albeit it's not the actual back-end and just preparatory work...

I very much hope this effort reaches a state where it's usable with the standard IRs and that drivers will be ready to support it. SPIR-V is a good choice for future versions, but there's a great deal of 1.2 HW out there that is only a driver update away from loading SPIR 1.2 in a conforming manner. AMD, Intel, Nv, Adreno, etc. the more the better.
