Phoronix: Benchmarking Amazon EC2 Instances vs. Various Intel/AMD CPUs

Given the recent performance changes following the Spectre/Meltdown CPU vulnerability mitigation and having just wrapped up some fresh CPU bare metal benchmarks as part of that testing as well as the recent AMD Raven Ridge launch, I've carried out a fresh round this week of benchmarks on various Amazon EC2 on-demand instance types compared to a number of bare metal Intel and AMD processors in looking at how the compute performance compares.

    Great comparison, thanks!

I think that Memory Optimized instances like x1.32xlarge, x1.16xlarge, x1e.32xlarge, and x1e.16xlarge are also very interesting to include: they may be called "Memory Optimized," but they have the highest amount of vCPUs for an instance: 128 and 64, and are used (at least by me) for highly parallel jobs.

What kind of storage was used in the bare metal benchmarking?

          Off-topic:
Michael, have you ever thought of opening a Youtube channel(seems like people are also more willing to donate through Patreon)?
With the amount of testing and hardware that you have, you can easily populate a channel with content.

I have thought about it, may if there is enough demand.

There was a larger Phoronix video channel of past conferences and sutff but that seems to have not migrated.

Note that this kind of content(hardware benchmarks) is usually watched by kids(or "enthusiasts"[gamers]) which are mostly into Windows gaming

https://www.gamersnexus.net/ - is probably a site that resembles Phoronix somewhat(not inspired of course), although aimed at Windows gamers.
They write an article and then basically make a video which explains that article(thinking about how much more effort would somebody have to put)

Michael I don't think Toshiba laptop noise would be the best content to watch
