      It's a dead simple system You have your major which is version 5 your minor which in this case 2 and then the indev series. That's my take on the system anyways

        What project's version number do carry any information these days?
        I can imagine gcc tries to look more mature and stable than clang which is "only" 3.7

          old versioning scheme was better

          no, i mean gcc 5.1 should have been called 5.0 and 5.2 should have been 5.0.1
