Lots of triggered snowflakes in this thread.

Good on GitLab. Perhaps I don't need this in my .gitconfig soon.

    Code:
    [B]❯[/B] grep -A 1 init ~/.gitconfig

    [init]

    defaultBranch = main

Sure there are also completely idiotic and forced changes for the sake of someone's agenda, but there's no need to reject changes that do make sense and also help in some way. Let's not complain just for the sake of complaining. This is not one of those cases.
It is not clearer than "master" in the slightest. It is plain and simply a completely useless change without a single upside.

Speaking of music, do they want to ban the song "Master of Puppets" by Metallica?

How about Master's degrees in education?
        Main of Puppets
        Maining
        Main's degree

        Sounds dumb...

          THIS.

It's a change demanded by a vocal minority in the name of another racial minority purely to virtue signal. I would not want to work with somebody who is "triggered" by the word master.

            Glad to hear.
Now no one thinks of a branch of black slaves anymore.

And the white people are happier now.

I am so glad, that I am an German Diplom Engineer and not a "Master of Engineering". Otherwise I would instantly go and buy slaves.

            What a weird world.

Might want to look at the etymology.

Master in regards to education and its use as a verb are both older than its use as the slave master term.

Computing just brought this mess directly on itself by deciding to use the slave master term.

And no big loss if Metallica is cancelled.

No, 'cause then people will complain that it refers to people's behinds, which is sexual.

And as I said before, in Dutch "meester" (which literally means "master") is used to refer to male teachers. So over here, children are taught to be racist from kindergarten on.
(not that I think it's racist, btw, but from the POV of the people that sprout this nonsense…)

You are wrong. Slaves where bought and held in old Egypt and surely earlier. So e.g. "Master of Engineering" is with no doubt not older than slavery.

So you are telling us, the IT people used that because of slaves? Makes no sense to me. As the master has also to do work, the slaves just follow the work of the master.

Ahh, of course. If something is not important to *you*, it can be cancelled. Sounds awful to me.
I respect other people and their music taste. Therefore I would never think that way.
                    Is that this "inclusive thinking"?

"main" is Dutch slang for "man". So if you put it like that, only men are allowed to use Git.
So it's not true that "main" only helps complaining people, 'cause it too has an alterior meaning, at least in Dutch, and that will upset females.
