Man...FreeBSD really sucks. At least NetBSD has more modern packages - and yes their fanaticism is over the top - this goes beyond the anti-systemD community.

There are newer versions available, always have been ported, just 'by default' never used for compiling the 'world/kernel' nor included with base install.
4.2.1 was last one used for that purpose before switching over to Clang/LLVM. Does not matter, you could have used newer version yourself. You
just had to install it.
