      So what problems in convedting does GCC have that llvm doesnt? Aside from the conversion tool using too much memory due to time thus size?

        That's mainly it AFAIK... Reposurgeon holding things up. ESR wrote it due to the way he wanted to preserve GCC's code history and branches, etc. I don't recall if using "git svn" had issues with handling the size of the GCC repository or it just came down to styling and branch handling, but yeah, Reposurgeon has been slow due to the long commit history of GCC.
