Qt Design Studio 1.0 Released As New Design/Development Environment

OK, to answer one of my own questions:

I've read the article here, the press release, and the landing page for the product and I still am not really sure what the fucking thing actually does. I'm not going to download some trialware just to find out... wish they would just spell it out, seeing as how it's unlikely to remain a secret for long.

The two minute video kind of helps. Not very much but there is more to be gleaned from those two minutes of video, I think, than any of the official descriptions from not-Trolltech. Basically it's supposed to be a component-based IDE of some kind, although I still am not clear on for what targets, nor what sort of build platform it uses. So perhaps the reason it can't create open-source software is that everything it builds relies on closed-source component libraries. That is just a guess though.
