Wrong. It joined the fray near the end but it was still part of Unix wars as it had a hand in ending Unix supremacy.
GNU userspace appeared long before Linux, near the half of Unix wars. It became a full OS by including Linux kernel in 93 which is near the end of "Unix Wars" time span.
In 93 Debian and Slackware appeared, in 94 RedHat and Suse distro appeared, and the ball started rolling.

It was cheaper and faster. Linux simply made it possible to run a Unix-like OS on x86. That's why all those companies moved to Linux, because they moved to x86. Nobody was running Linux on SPARC or buying Sun hardware and installing Linux on it.

For Sun, Solaris was about adding value to bring customers into their hardware domain and keep them there (like OS X today). But with IBM dominating the high-end and Intel scooping up the low-end, and with the dot-com bubble popping, Sun's hardware market pretty much evaporated overnight.
X86 probably has more ports of UNIX and UNIX-ish operating systems that any other processor architecture so I doubt it's that alone. You do know UNIX and UNIX like OS's existed on x86 before Linux right? Two reasons for me. One is Linux being free and probably more so in the beer sense helped it and number two, Linux made UNIX easier.

Besides, not only that but Sun had SunOS on X86, Solaris on X86 and also Interactive UNIX on x86. Oh an FWIW with certainly bought Sun Hardware to run Linux on it. But it wasn't SPARC.

I don't find anything fantastic about it except dtrace and zfs, but they came too late.

The height of the UNIX wars was the Hamilton Group (OSF) vs Sun / AT&T. 1988.
Linux had no measurable effect on UNIX sales until perhaps 1998 or later.
The biggest hits to UNIX companies were
          • OS/2 and Win NT stealing mindshare at the low end.
          • Hardware revenue being killed by X86.
          • perhaps: unproductive internecine warfare
My recollection (too lazy to check) is that Sun's revenues climbed essentially continuously until 2000 or even 2001. And what hit it was the dot com bubble bursting. Linux started to matter about then too.

My analogy is precisely to the point. None of the BSD's sued Linux or harrassed it in any way. But still you lump them into "let them feel revenge"-group.

Teenagers, females and infantile adult males have such attitudes - you know, " problem" where causality (especially when facts are not fitting with the particular bias) does not matter, since at core reaction(s) are purely emotional.

If you have ever had wife, you'd instantly understand what I am talking about. Anything you said in a fight would be turned back against you and even your neighbour's or her best girl friend's first date's sins from 30y a go would become yours proving that all men - incl you in particular are pigs and whatever she would choose to behave like or how heavily overreact is perfectly justified because of it. Is that better analogy?

BSD's are competitors which support proprietary crap and they have to die. FreeBSD developers and community were very hostile toward Linux.

You just described yourself very nicely, because many of your post were very emotional. Supersession at its finest.

I'm sorry, because of your problems.

They were open source when they premiered in Solaris 10, it's not like they kept them proprietary and then later open sourced it.

Also Solaris and Illumos have mdb and zones.

Funny claim, considering that Linux contains far more proprietary "crap" and some BSD's (like Open) go to considerable lengths to avoid binary blobs/proprietary..
You might want to check what operating systems Widewine DRM supports and does not support for example. Or which operating system has patented stuff in it's kernel, limiting certain functionality to GPL-licensed code.

I did not say a single word about "my emotions". On the other hand, "deserves to die" is VERY UNemotional, not. It's also perfect example of hatred rising from sheer ignorance and preconceptions. Since you make it obvious through your statements, that you have no idea of nor have never used more than perhaps superficially, any of the non-Linux operating systems, barring Windows.

Unless you are a wife-beater, single or Islamic, it's more-or-less common reality for average male.

Linux kernel doesn't support proprietary software. It allows it to work. BSD code can be included without even asking. Linux distributions have more proprietary software, because they're hundreds times more popular than BSD, so someone brought such software to Linux. Do you want Linux to punish them?

You didn't have to. It's just my wish for BSD to die. I wanted the same to happen to Solaris and Sun and.. it happened! I also predicted this years before. I'm using Windows even longer than Linux. Since nearly thirty years. I've also used FreeBSD and OS X. As you can see I'm better oracle than you. I wish Windows and OS X the same of course.

I have solution for this: I don't marry and I just change my girlfriend from time to time.

Wonder what the hell all those "mysterious binary blobs" in linux kernel are? Somebody just copied those over for fun? That's how it supports proprietary software. That's why there's Linux-libre - to get rid of binaries and have kernel without proprietary crap.

Let's also mention kernel API's, which may limit their usage to GPL software due patents.

meh, me thinks you have meaning of 'proprietary' all confused up. GPL itself means sort of 'proprietary' because it's copyleft license. Additionally it's viral license, forcing you to license derivative code to GPL as well. It has far less freedom than BSD/MIT-type licenses offer. Funny that you are trying to talk white into black and black into white.

So you also hate Linux? Since lack of competition always would result in stagnation.

And I predicted systemd would make linux look uniform across distros and actually weaken it. It also has happened - from gazillion different distros, it has become to handful of major ones and their clones. Decade further and only distinguishing characteristic will be graphical themes. Welcome to Winux.

I suspect it actually means 'changing Pornhub bookmarks time to time' for you.
