I love the fact the use Mate, what I consider the GUI out there. Anyone know the theme there are using, it looks so cool in screenshots?

I find it unfortunate that Linux is on the GPL, BSD is on the BSD license, and Solaris on the CDDL.
They're all open source, but maybe the different licenses result in problems with cooperation, porting, and duplication of efforts.

They may use GNOME but at least it's Solaris, which means there is no danger of using waylanD.

There is some porting going on in the area of drivers or ZFS for example, but on the whole the GPL is unacceptable for BSD and the BSD licence is unacceptable for Linux. The CDDL is just a knee jerk licence whose sole purpose was to be GPL incompatible.

None of this seems to be a huge problem though. Linux is not BSD and is doing extremely well on its own. I for one like it that way.
