Phoronix: An Open-Source, Reverse-Engineered Mali GPU Driver

There is some exciting news to break today on Phoronix... Coming up at FOSDEM (the Free Open-Source Developers' European Meeting in Brussels) will be the formal announcement of an open-source, reverse-engineered graphics driver for the ARM Mali graphics processor. OpenGL ES triangles are in action on open-source code. Will this be the start of fully open-source ARM graphics drivers for Android and Linux?

Hopefully this work spurs someone to do the same thing for the PowerVR GPUs (which are used in far more devices than the ARM Mali GPUs)

Hmm... if this work gets properly mainlined into Mesa it would certainly make ARM more attractive.

Awesome! If the developers need any beta testers, I have a working MIPS system with a MALI 200/400 in it.

ARM already give the DRI part with Apache and MIT licenses, this is far better than PowerVR (used in some Intel CPU too) :
